Welcome!

This is a group for readers who enjoy novels set in the South, in particular the South Carolina Lowcountry, coastal Georgia, coastal North Carolina, and thereabouts, with a few other beach reads thrown in for good measure. It’s fine to discuss books set in other places in this group. Since we share a love of beach books, it’s likely our overall reading tastes are similar. The group focus is on what members are reading, what they want to read, their favorite books, the settings, and anything related to these books. Posts about the places the books are set, food in the books, and any other related topic are welcome.

I envisioned this as a place for readers who aren’t on social media or who are looking for an alternative, but everyone is welcome. Much of the content I post here is a duplicate of what I share in the Facebook group, The Lowcountry Book Club.

I’m so happy to welcome you to The Back Porch! Please pull up a rocking chair and fill your glass with iced tea, and join me!

What was the first book you read in 2022? What book will be your final read of the year? Have you chosen which book you will read first in 2023?

Happy New Year! The fireworks are exploding all around, yet, quite frankly, I am surprised I am still awake to see and hear them! 😉😁 I am of a certain age now, so seeing the new year in usually doesn't happen anymore. I don't remember what my first read book of 2022 was, but I finished my last  of 2022 at 11:47pm. It was wonderful, and bittersweet, as it was, presumably, the last fully focused  tale of Liz Talbot & Nate Andrews, Lowcountry Getaway. It was lovely, and a fitting end to a year full of ups and downs and all-arounds for so many of us world wide. I have loved every single one of your Lowcountry series, and admire you so much! Looking forward to April for the new series debut!

Can't sleep just yet, so I do believe my first 2023 read will be an ACF Bookins cozy from St. Marin's. Totally different coastal view!

Wishing you and yours a healthy, prosperous, and continually blessed 2023, with lots of peaceful beach time mixed in!❤

Fondly,

  Your fan Reta

Reta,

Thank you so very much! I'm glad you enjoyed Lowcountry Getaway. I have told readers that I am leaving the door open to more Liz and Nate, but at this time I'm focusing on my new series. The first book in that series, Big Trouble in Sullivan's Island, will release in the spring.

Thank you for being one of my readers. I'm deeply grateful for you and everyone that make it possible for me to spend my time writing.

Happy 2023! May the year hold everything you want it to.

The Back Porch Rules:

  1. Be kind: Reading is very subjective. We all have our own opinions. Please share yours. Discussion, disagreement, and debate are all welcome, but kindness, courtesy, and respect are required.
  2. Be gentle: It’s perfectly fine to say, “This book wasn’t my cup of tea,” and tell us why. But reading is subjective. One person’s favorite book will be another’s least favorite. There are authors in this group.
  3. To Authors: I’m so happy you’re here. Please share what you’re reading and tell us why you love it. Join in on any conversation. Please don’t promote your own work in this group unless you’re invited to do so.
  4. No promotion of any kind: No promotion of any product, service, person, event, or any other group.

Thank you!
