Welcome!
This is a group for readers who enjoy novels set in the South, in particular the South Carolina Lowcountry, coastal Georgia, coastal North Carolina, and thereabouts, with a few other beach reads thrown in for good measure. It’s fine to discuss books set in other places in this group. Since we share a love of beach books, it’s likely our overall reading tastes are similar.The group focus is on what members are reading, what they want to read, their favorite books, the settings, and anything related to these books. Posts about the places the books are set, food in the books, and any other related topic are welcome.
I envisioned this as a place for readers who aren’t on social media or who are looking for an alternative, but everyone is welcome. Much of the content I post here is a duplicate of what I share in the Facebook group, The Lowcountry Book Club.

What format do you prefer when reading?
I typically read hardcover or paperback books. Having the "real" book in my hands is just my preference. But I do have a Kindle for traveling and checking out the ebook versions of my own books. I confess I love seeing what readers highlight. Do you read on an ereader? Do you highlight passages you enjoy?

My Kindle has been a blessing for me! I suffer from chronic dry eye and I've found the backlight of the Kindle Paperwhite is much easier on my eyes. I also love the convenience of being able to instantly download a book.
My preferences have changed greatly over the years. When Kindle first came out, I bought the first version and upgraded it a few times. The convenience is wonderful. But, then I discovered Audio Books about 5 years ago and they immediately became my favorite format. I love that I can listen to a book while doing other things. My husband and I like to listen to books on road trips and it sure makes the hours fly by. For me, personally, Loretta Rawlins IS Liz Talbot.
I love holding a real book, hardback or sometimes paperback, but I often read ebooks, sometimes in the kindle app on my Iphone.
I like eBooks and audiobooks. Sometimes I can find the books in braille which I love too.
I've gotten more into using my Kindle Paperwhite, and audio books. I don't have a lot of room for physical books so this works out great for me. Also, I can read the paperwhite outside or at night without using a light. A plus for me so as not to wake up the husband. 🙂
I enjoy hardback books. However, my eyes have had some issues over the last few years that make it very difficult to read paperbacks or many hardback books. So, I have resorted to my Kindle because I can change the font size and background depending on what works best that day.
I enjoy all formats, hardcover, paperback, Kindle and audio. I am really getting hooked on audio. The Kindle is great so I can keep reading even when my husband is ready to go to sleep.
I love reading a hardcover, but my eyes don’t always like the font size in many books. I tend to read more ebooks now because I can adjust the size of the font.
I read on my kindle on iPad most of the time. I found, when I was about 58-60, that my eyes were a little more finicky. I like being able to control light and font. No matter where I’m reading, I can make both the most comfortable. I always have a book with me so my iPad is always close by! I don’t highlight as much as I copy and put in a file in my notes. I have found the most beautiful quotes or use of words that I want to be able to read again!
